Come Explore

Step into the WaterSaver Community and explore how smart gardening can be beautiful. This one-of-a-kind demonstration garden features five model home landscapes filled with native and adapted plants, creative design ideas and practical solutions for saving water and managing stormwater. Each garden highlights a different style, budget and growing environment, helping visitors picture what might work in their own yard or neighborhood. Framed by charming home façades, the space is designed to spark curiosity, grow confidence and plant the seed for deeper learning through classes and programs.

Each “home” features a piece of green infrastructure, from bioswales to cisterns to rain gardens.

There is no irrigation system installed in this space. Each of the five demonstration gardens are hand watered and also display lawn alternative plant selections.

The garden horticulture team says that this is one of the easiest gardens to maintain at SABG. Don’t forget to take a garden design plan located at each of the five demonstration gardens if you would like to recreate a watersaver garden at your home!

Casa Sol

Casa Sol’s modern landscape includes native ornamental grasses and prairie wildflowers that can survive drought.

Crossvine Cottage

The landscape of Crossvine Cottage showcases a dry shade garden that is both colorful and lush, under a canopy of oak trees.

Hill Haus

The Hill Haus has a limestone fireplace and Texas Hill Country-inspired plants. Ornamental grasses, prickly pear cactus, and agarita provide a structural backbone for seasonal wildflowers.

Prickly Pear Place

The Petra House landscape showcases succulents, dry land grasses, and perennial colors.

Petra House

Prickly Pear Place blends a drought-resistant landscape with a classic home look. When in bloom, the cool-colored flowers of this landscape attract pollinators and wildlife.
