Want to take a walk across Texas without leaving San Antonio? The Texas Native Trail invites visitors to explore three of the state’s distinctive ecological regions: the Hill Country, East Texas Pineywoods, and South Texas Plains, each with its own plants, textures, and story to tell. As the trail winds through these landscapes, guests can discover how soil, weather, and water shape the natural world around us. Historic Texas homes along the way add another layer of discovery, helping bring each region’s culture and environment to life. Stroll through the East Texas Pineywoods to find conifers, hardwoods, and a peaceful lake framed by a historic homestead setting. Explore the Hill Country to encounter limestone-loving plants, native grasses, and stories tied to springs and aquifer recharge. In the South Texas Plains, look for mesquite, huisache, cacti, and the Bird Watch, where migratory birds make this stretch of trail especially rewarding.
