The San Antonio Botanical Garden (SABG) is currently spearheading a massive, multi-year rescue and reclamation project for the endangered Black Lace Cactus in response to industrial expansion in South Texas. When a significant, unexpected population was discovered on a 30,000-acre lignite mining site near Christine, Texas, well outside its typical coastal range – SABG’s conservation team, led by Vice President of Conservation and Collections Michael Eason, partnered with the San Miguel Electric Cooperative and the Native Plant Rescue Project to launch a strategic intervention.
